To all MPS
Kia ora koutou,
Thank you
Thank you Auckland and thank you to all the MPs who took part in the massive 15,000-strong march for Palestine in Queen Street last Saturday.
Those of you who took part are standing up for core New Zealand values supporting democracy, international law and equal human rights for everyone in Palestine.
The counter protest by contrast was a small and pathetic affair where apartheid and genocide were defended.
New Zealand needs all its MPs to support the movement for a state in Palestine where everyone living between the river and the sea enjoys equal rights and all ethnicities and religions are protected under a democratic constitution.
IF you were not there on Saturday – make sure you are there next time.

Auckland led the way on Global March for Palestine with 15,000 strong turnout
Watch a flyover of the huge Auckland protest here. The full story as reported by journalist David Robie is here here
What a fantastic series of events around the country last weekend. Thank you all for organising and activating as part of the greatest global movement in the history of humanity.
It was a 15,000-string, marvelous march in Auckland where local activists did a huge amount of groundwork to create and turn out a broad coalition of groups for a lively, colourful, eye-catching celebration of humanity.
And across the country numbers were excellent and the organisation impressive – thanks again everyone!
Every time we march or wave flags for Palestine or wear our Palestine t-shirts and badges we keep the issue in front of the public and remind everyone Israel is a racist, apartheid state which is committing genocide against the Palestinian people. This is preventing Israel and the pro-Israel lobby from getting back to “business as usual” which it is desperate to do. One of our roles is to make that utterly impossible for them.
Yesterday also marked the first time the pro-Israel lobby has made a concerted effort to get numbers out across the country to confront our protests (this became violent in Nelson with physical attacks on our supporters) These so-called “anti-Hamas” protests, actively supported by the New Zealand Jewish Council, were a small, sad, pathetic spectacle.
The public is with Palestine – not with Israel.
It’s also important to note that while the mainstream media have largely ignored our regular nationwide protests for three years, they suddenly turn up with cameras and microphones when the pro-Israeli lobby decides to rally and march. Across the western world this has been the same pattern – the corporate-controlled media, and shamefully including our publicly funded TVNZ and Radio NZ, have been deeply complicit in promoting Israeli propaganda for many decades. This has not changed even with the genocide.
But New Zealanders have had their eyes opened by the genocide – at terrible cost to Palestinians. There is no closing those eyes again.
We are winning – thank you for being part of this great movement working to end the greatest human rights catastrophe of the 21st century.
Reflection on the massive Auckland protest – from author Paul Maunder
We’d driven to Auckland from Wellington to see some old friends who are now in a rest home/hospital. I’d suggested we go to the Palestinian march and they were keen, even though it involved some complex logistics. But we got there and moved past the Destiny Church Zionists who appeared to be inmates from some old fashioned, colonial ‘looney bin’ to join the body of protestors.
The protest was beautiful, for it was a Palestinian protest which we were supporting. Auckland is now a multi-cultural city with Europeans simply another ethnic group. This is obviously contributing to the Pākeha fragility rage of ACT. The costuming and props of the movement are profoundly important, reminding me of the Zapatista in Mexico. The movement is a culture. The shrill, bird-like voices of the Palestinian teenagers alongside us leading the chants were beautiful in their vulnerability and certainty. One of our mates was in a wheelchair, the other had to be watched for random wandering, but they were encompassed by purpose.
And then when we got to the hill leading up to Albert Park, something wonderful happened.
Suddenly, as they saw me as an elder, a Palestinian family, without fuss or bother, simply took over the pushing of the wheelchair. I suddenly felt the grace, resilience and dignity of the culture. When we reached the park we embraced and they faded into the crowd.
Rather than being ‘a protestor’, I had become a supporter of another group’s cry for justice and the international movement made total sense. And there is a role for everyone.

Brilliant effort today Team Koha.
We collected $917.70 at the rally today and $105 yesterday at the BoR flag waving for a total of $1,022.70.
The genocide has been deliberately pushed off the mainstream media and every cent is needed for us to keep up our increasingly effective mahi. Two examples of our donors:
A homeless man in Hereford St gave 35 cents today.
Last night at flag waving a U.S. serviceman who’d been down in Antartica on the navy research programme stopped and emptied his wallet – $85.00.
We’re doing more than collecting...
At this stage of the election campaign where do our main political parties stand on sanctions for Israel?
ACT: No sanctions. Has the most outspoken MPs in support of Israel.
Green Party: Introduced Sanction Israel Bill, based in sanctions against Russia. Promises ‘recognition of Palestine and sanctions against Israel’. “It is time to sanction Israel and it is time to expel the Israeli ambassador” - Ricardo Menéndez March
Labour: Supports the Greens’ Bill. States it will end procurement and investment in companies on UN Human Rights Council list, which profit from illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
National: Bans immigration of some West Bank settlers and two ministers – specifically not ‘the government of Israel’. No action at all on the Gaza genocide. Deteriorating voting record in the UN.
New Zealand First: Leader holds post of Foreign Minister. No sanctions on Israel. Welcomes Israeli soldiers and visitors.
Te Pāti Māori: Comprehensive sanctions on Israel and expel the US Ambassador too. ‘Stands unequivocally with the people of Palestine’.
TOP: Supports ‘two-state solution’ but no sanctions policy.
If they won’t sanction Israel – don’t give them your vote!

Making Palestine the baseline this election
We’ve asked the main political parties the following five questions about their position on Palestine. Now, we’re asking you to put the same questions to the candidates in your electorate and help increase the pressure.
OUR QUESTIONS FOR CANDIDATES
1. Would you support the recognition of the State of Palestine immediately?
2. Do you accept Israel's actions in Gaza since October 2023 amount to genocide?
3. Do you support a ban on procuring goods or services involved in illegal Israeli settlements?
4. Do you support comprehensive sanctions on Israel for their violations of international law?
5. Would you support expelling the Israeli ambassador until Israel complies with international law?
Our politicians should serve as representatives of their constituents. We need your help to push individual candidates to clearly state where they stand on Palestine.
Email your candidates or record yourself asking them the five questions. Send your email responses or videos to:

Christchurch City Council – Boycott Israel!
Above are photos of our wonderful Wednesday action at the City Council. And what a great occasion it was! 35 people turned up to support our PSNA representatives who introduced our petition to the ChCh City Council. The petition, collected over three different Saturday one-hour stalls in Lyttelton, called upon the City Council to stop trade with Israel going through the Port of Lyttelton.
300 Lyttelton people had signed the petition. This amounts to an impressive 100 signatures being collected per hour!
And all this demonstrates, as was pointed out to the councilors, the significant support out there in the community for boycotting Israel!!
Erika & Eliot (PSNA National Committee member) - pictured behind the “Boycott Israel” placard gave a truly great and inspiring 5-minute presentation on behalf of PSNA, and the public who had signed the petition.
While the outcome will be decided at another time, half the councilors joined in the applause at the end of the presentation.
But well done to everybody who attended for contributing to a truly impressive stand for Palestine!
We will keep you posted.

When Israel imposed a blockade on Gaza in 2006, economic warfare and starvation were systematically imposed, punctuated by periodic “high-tech killing sprees” to inflict the maximum destruction possible in order to make the enclave uninhabitable and force its people out.

Pedal for Palestine – October 18
PSNA is supporting a national “Pedaling for Palestine” event on Sunday October 18 to raise money for the Palestinian cycling team, the “Gaza Sunbirds”. It comes a week after the October 10 International Day of Solidarity with Palestine and could be advertised at these events. The poster for the Christchurch event is above.
The weather is improving and this event is a great way to keep Palestine before the public in the leadup to the election.
Any money raised locally (either through sponsorship, entry fees or donations) can be sent to PSNA national account with “Sunbirds” in the reference line and we will get it through to the Gaza club.

NAZA (Collateral Damage) trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIBRLEEaueo
I have just watched the most disturbing film in my lifetime - a warning to the world of a horrendous future when human life and death is being decided by remote AI-assisted control warfare weapons as in Gaza. But unlike the Venice film festival premiere last month when the audience gave an unprecedented 25-minute standing ovation for The Guardian-produced NAZA: A Window into Systems of Mass Killing, the New Zealand preview audience at the Rialto Cinemas sat in shocked silence for minutes at the end, unsure how to respond to this harrowing documentary by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor.
This is a chilling visual testimony (evidence for future war crimes trials of Netanyahu and others?) of what Australian journalist Antony Loewenstein wrote about in his landmark global book The Palestine Laboratory. At least 74,000 Palestinians have been slaughtered (the real total is bound to be far, far higher) in three years - mostly women and children. And a Republican congressman, David Valadao, has just been reported as gloating about the US "benefits" of the war on Gaza in that weapons "are tested there; we are able to learn from that".
Sickening!

“Sitting on the Fence” now available online
In Sitting On The Fence, Kiwi voices speaking truth to power in Aotearoa, US and Israel over their complicity in genocide have at last been given the platform that those in Parliament, the media and diplomacy have sought to silence.” Jane Kelsey - Emeritus Professor of Law, Auckland University, Aotearoa / New Zealand
Sitting On The Fence is now available to watch online in New Zealand.
The film can be viewed at this link www.sittingonthefence.tv. Please share on your social media networks.
And from Ilan Pappe…
Ilan Pappe, Israeli historian / author, Professor at Exeter University UK
When asked to comment on the kiwi film by Daniel Cleary well-known Israeli historian Ilan Pappe has high praise:
“Albert Einstein said that "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” This includes those politicians in New Zealand who sat on the fence, and still do, during the most televised genocide in our times. But Sitting On The Fence and some of the brave critics interviewed in it give us hope that complicity is not only exposed but can also be challenged. This film is a tribute to the few who did not remain silent and a harsh indictment of those who will be judged for being on the wrong side of the history of New Zealand and of Palestine. This is not just a film about complicity in New Zealand, but how the silence in New Zealand tragically epitomises that of the world”

Your KiwiSaver may be funding violations of Palestinian rights
Important message from Barry Coates – founder and CEO of Mindful Money
(Website: mindfulmoney.nz. Join our mailing list here)
The judgement won by PSNA forcing the NZ Super Fund to review its investments in four companies that violate the rights of Palestinian people was important. It also sends a warning across the bow of KiwiSaver and other investment funds funds. You may not realise it, but your KiwiSaver might be invested in those four companies.
Mindful Money is a charity that tracks investment in KiwiSaver, including companies on the United Nations Human Rights Council database of companies involved in the building and maintenance of illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land. Our analysis shows there is even more invested in the four companies by KiwiSaver funds than by the NZ Super Fund.
So what can you do? Check your fund – it is free, quick and easy to do so. Go to www.mindfulmoney.nz, type in the name of your KiwiSaver fund into the Fund Checker, click the button ‘Show Companies’ and look for the companies with an OPT symbol. If you see any of those companies in your fund, write to your fund manager (the address is on your KiwiSaver statement) and tell them you don’t want your savings going to those companies.
If you want to shift to a fund that doesn’t invest in those companies, use the Fund Finder to find a Mindful Ethical Fund. You can also use the same website for non-KiwiSaver managed funds.
It’s your money. Don’t let it be used to fund companies that violate human rights.
