Kia ora Board Members,
Profiting from selling genocidal products while bullying the Palestine solidarity movement
As board members responsible for Noel Leeming I’m shocked that your companies Noel Leeming and the Warehouse continue to sell genocide-supporting SodaSteam products. I’m also stunned that you are also using the police and the courts to claim $10,321.60 from activists in alleged damage when anti-genocide stickers have been placed on SodaStream products in your stores.
I think the behaviour of your companies is contemptable as the Israeli genocide continues in Gaza under cover of a “ceasefire” while Palestinians are driven off their land in the Occupied West Bank to make way for more illegal Israeli settlers and their companies such as SodaStream.
Even at this late hour I urge you to end your support for the genocidal, apartheid state of Israel by respecting and following your own “ethical procurement” policy.
Please respond without delay.

Mr Winston Peters
Foreign Minister
w.peters@ministers.govt.nz
Kia ora Mr Mr Peters,
106 days of silence on the Israeli genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the Occupied West Bank
Sorry to wake you Mr Peters but there is a genocide occurring in Gaza under cover of a “ceasefire” while Palestinians are driven off their land in the Occupied West Bank to make way for more illegal Israeli settlers and yet not a peep from you.
Meanwhile the Israelis are lying like flatfish about the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023.
There were no beheaded babies and no mass rapes. Many hundreds of the Israeli civilians killed were by the Hannibal Directive issued by IDF leader to kill Israeli hostages rather than have them traded for the thousands of Palestinian hostages in detention without trial in Israeli prisons.
When you wake please spend time reading the United Nations Independent Commission report on the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel which details Israel’s calculated killing and maiming of Palestinian children.

Debunking Israeli October 7th propaganda…
On the third anniversary of the October 7 2023 attack on Israel our mainstream media continues to report the most vile Israeli propaganda without question.
On October 7th 2023, the Palestinian resistance – led by Hamas – launched a decisive attack on Israeli military bases outside the Gaza border. Six Israeli bases were overrun and 380 Israeli soldiers were killed. It was a courageous David Vs Goliath attack by a people besieged in the “open-air prison” of Gaza for 17 years.
At the same time there were war crimes committed with some Israeli civilians killed and some taken back to Gaza as hostages.
A total of almost 1200 Israelis were killed but what we don’t yet know is how many hundreds of Israelis were killed through the Hannibal directive (Israel firing hellfire missiles and machine guns from helicopters in an attempt to prevent live Israeli hostages reaching Gaza where they could be used in exchange for the thousands of Palestinian hostages held in Israeli jails without charge or trial)
Israel has admitted the Hannibal directive was used but this has NEVER been reported in New Zealand mainstream media. Our TV, radio and newspapers have preferred instead to pour unfiltered, rabid, racist Israeli propaganda into our living rooms.
This propaganda includes:
Hamas hates Jews and wants to kill every Jew in the world
Hamas beheaded babies, burned babies alive in ovens etc
Hamas used systematic widespread rape as a weapon of war against Israeli women and children.
Hamas uses civilians as human shields
Hamas educates Palestinian children to hate Israelis
Hamas has hijacked humanitarian supplies which is the main reason Palestinians in Gaza are starving
On the first anniversary of October 7th we debunked this racist, Islamophobic propaganda. Our report can be read here or you can find it with this QR code
At this stage of the election campaign where do our main political parties stand on sanctions for Israel?
ACT: No sanctions. Has the most outspoken MPs in support of Israel.
Green Party: Introduced Sanction Israel Bill, based in sanctions against Russia. Promises ‘recognition of Palestine and sanctions against Israel’. “It is time to sanction Israel and it is time to expel the Israeli ambassador” - Ricardo Menéndez March
Labour: Supports the Greens’ Bill. States it will end procurement and investment in companies on UN Human Rights Council list, which profit from illegal Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
National: Bans immigration of some West Bank settlers and two ministers – specifically not ‘the government of Israel’. No action at all on the Gaza genocide. Deteriorating voting record in the UN.
New Zealand First: Leader holds post of Foreign Minister. No sanctions on Israel. Welcomes Israeli soldiers and visitors.
Te Pāti Māori: Comprehensive sanctions on Israel and expel the US Ambassador too. ‘Stands unequivocally with the people of Palestine’.
TOP: Supports ‘two-state solution’ but no sanctions policy.
If they won’t sanction Israel – don’t give them your vote!

Activist John Minto, pictured during a pro-Palestine march in Christchurch in 2024
Technology retailer Noel Leeming has claimed it suffered more than $10,000 of damage after pro-Palestine protesters placed “anti-genocide” stickers on SodaStream products linked to Israel.
Police subsequently charged Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa (PSNA) campaign co-ordinator John Minto and chair Ben Vorderegger with causing intentional damage during the protest at a Christchurch outlet in June, which the pair denied.
But a judge wants more information before “tens of thousands of dollars” are spent on a trial over the alleged damage caused by the stickers.
At the Christchurch District Court on Monday, Minto told Judge Gerard Lynch the stickers would have caused some annoyance and inconvenience, but nothing more.
Protestors place stickers on SodaStream products in Noel Leeming
He said the $10,000 figure was “out of kilter” with what occurred, and if Noel Leeming wanted to pursue it, it should do so in a civil jurisdiction.
Police said the retailer had claimed the stickers damaged boxes and goods by leaving marks and residue, despite attempts to clean them off.
Where stickers had only damaged boxes, Noel Leeming claimed it was unable to sell the products within without the box, the court heard.
“I’m not sure I’m with Noel Leeming on that,” Judge Lynch said. If the stickers were truly just that, he questioned if it would be worth spending tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars on the case.
The Ōtautahi branch of the Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa uploaded a video of stickers it placed on SodaStream products in June
If the damage caused was less than $10,000, he said he “would be suggesting” that causing intentional damage was an overcharge. The crime is punishable by a maximum seven years’ imprisonment.
Judge Lynch directed police to provide more information about the damage suffered by Noel Leeming at another appearance in December.
In a statement earlier on Monday, Minto insisted the stickers “could have been removed easily and quickly” and accused police of “harassment and legal bullying”.
He claimed police were ignoring a recent tyre-slashing of his car and that the reparation claim was a “crude attempt” to claw back $10,000 he said police paid him following an Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA) investigation.
Protesters placed stickers on SodaStream products and boxes.
In response, Christchurch metro commander Superintendent Lane Todd said the $10,000 value was provided by Noel Leeming and included items that needed to be removed from sale “as part of the store’s policy following the alleged actions of protesters”.
Regarding the tyre incident, Todd said a report was filed on August 28 about a person slashing a tyre 13 days prior. “Unfortunately, with no available evidence or avenues of inquiry, the matter was filed.”
Police would assess any new evidence that came to light about the tyre and take action where possible, he said.
Minto says his case amounts to police harassment and legal bullying.
Noel Leeming did not respond to a request for comment.
In May, the IPCA found that police acted unlawfully when officers pepper sprayed and arrested Minto at a pro-Palestine protest in February 2024.
Minto has been an activist for more than 50 years. He first gained prominence leading the anti-apartheid Halt All Racist Tours movement in 1981. He has since been involved in numerous campaigns, including Keep Our Assets, the Mana Movement, and more recently the pro-Palestine movement.
Making Palestine the baseline this election
We’ve asked the main political parties the following five questions about their position on Palestine. Now, we’re asking you to put the same questions to the candidates in your electorate and help increase the pressure.
OUR QUESTIONS FOR CANDIDATES
1. Would you support the recognition of the State of Palestine immediately?
2. Do you accept Israel's actions in Gaza since October 2023 amount to genocide?
3. Do you support a ban on procuring goods or services involved in illegal Israeli settlements?
4. Do you support comprehensive sanctions on Israel for their violations of international law?
5. Would you support expelling the Israeli ambassador until Israel complies with international law?
Our politicians should serve as representatives of their constituents. We need your help to push individual candidates to clearly state where they stand on Palestine.
Email your candidates or record yourself asking them the five questions. Send your email responses or videos to:

Pedal for Palestine – October 18
PSNA is supporting a national “Pedaling for Palestine” event on Sunday October 18 to raise money for the Palestinian cycling team, the “Gaza Sunbirds”. It comes a week after the October 10 International Day of Solidarity with Palestine and could be advertised at these events. The poster for the Christchurch event is above.
The weather is improving and this event is a great way to keep Palestine before the public in the leadup to the election.
Any money raised locally (either through sponsorship, entry fees or donations) can be sent to PSNA national account with “Sunbirds” in the reference line and we will get it through to the Gaza club.

Naza – new film on the genocide in Gaza
Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival presents a series of special screenings of NAZA, the new film from Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the Academy Award-winning directors of No Other Land (NZIFF 2024).
Shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, the film reveals in detail the systems behind Israel’s calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
A joint statement from Abraham and Szor said, "we made this film out of a sense of obligation to use our position as Israelis to examine the systems behind the mass killing of Palestinian civilians for which our country is responsible."
This series of screenings will be the first time audiences in Aotearoa will see the film. You can watch the trailer here and read more about the film here and here

“Sitting on the Fence” now available online
In Sitting On The Fence, Kiwi voices speaking truth to power in Aotearoa, US and Israel over their complicity in genocide have at last been given the platform that those in Parliament, the media and diplomacy have sought to silence.” Jane Kelsey - Emeritus Professor of Law, Auckland University, Aotearoa / New Zealand
Sitting On The Fence is now available to watch online in New Zealand.
The film can be viewed at this link www.sittingonthefence.tv. Please share on your social media networks.
And from Ilan Pappe…
Ilan Pappe, Israeli historian / author, Professor at Exeter University UK
When asked to comment on the kiwi film by Daniel Cleary well-known Israeli historian Ilan Pappe has high praise:
“Albert Einstein said that "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” This includes those politicians in New Zealand who sat on the fence, and still do, during the most televised genocide in our times. But Sitting On The Fence and some of the brave critics interviewed in it give us hope that complicity is not only exposed but can also be challenged. This film is a tribute to the few who did not remain silent and a harsh indictment of those who will be judged for being on the wrong side of the history of New Zealand and of Palestine. This is not just a film about complicity in New Zealand, but how the silence in New Zealand tragically epitomises that of the world”

Your KiwiSaver may be funding violations of Palestinian rights
Important message from Barry Coates – founder and CEO of Mindful Money
(Website: mindfulmoney.nz. Join our mailing list here)
The judgement won by PSNA forcing the NZ Super Fund to review its investments in four companies that violate the rights of Palestinian people was important. It also sends a warning across the bow of KiwiSaver and other investment funds funds. You may not realise it, but your KiwiSaver might be invested in those four companies.
Mindful Money is a charity that tracks investment in KiwiSaver, including companies on the United Nations Human Rights Council database of companies involved in the building and maintenance of illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian land. Our analysis shows there is even more invested in the four companies by KiwiSaver funds than by the NZ Super Fund.
So what can you do? Check your fund – it is free, quick and easy to do so. Go to www.mindfulmoney.nz, type in the name of your KiwiSaver fund into the Fund Checker, click the button ‘Show Companies’ and look for the companies with an OPT symbol. If you see any of those companies in your fund, write to your fund manager (the address is on your KiwiSaver statement) and tell them you don’t want your savings going to those companies.
If you want to shift to a fund that doesn’t invest in those companies, use the Fund Finder to find a Mindful Ethical Fund. You can also use the same website for non-KiwiSaver managed funds.
It’s your money. Don’t let it be used to fund companies that violate human rights.

We will need some serious money to make our campaign as effective as possible. For example, we will need somewhere in the vicinity of $25,000 to bring speakers to New Zealand over the next year and organise large public meetings to help spread the message.
You can help. Are you able to donate a cup of coffee a month to the campaign? In other words, can you afford to make an automatic payment of $5 per month to support the Palestinian struggle? (If you can afford more that would be great!)
