Summary

  • Court proceedings filed challenging government approving BlackSky satellite launches from Rocket Lab site at Māhia, for spying for Israel over Gaza.

  • Space Minister Chris Penk signed off Rocket Lab launching 26 more satellites.

  • France based Intelligence Online reported in 2024 that Israel was BlackSky’s ‘main foreign customer’.[1]

  • The plaintiff, Yasser Abdulaal, has 85 extended family members killed by Israel in the current Genocide.

  •  Second plaintiff Maher Nazzal’s family were displaced when Israel seized the West Bank in 1967.

  • The third plaintiff is Dr Timoti Te Moke (Ngāti Rangitihi, Tapuika and Tonga). “Tangata whenua and Palestinians have both suffered colonial violence and so have a powerful connection with each other.”

  • Lawyer Sam Vincent says “We are seeking an order that will quash the Minister’s approval and direct that he inquires into BlackSky’s likely supply of data to Israel.”
