Collins moving from Attorney General to the Law Commission

Atorney General
For 28 long deadly months, we have waited for the Attorney General Judith Collins to advise the Government of Aotearoa’s Obligations under both New Zealand and International Law to take action against Israels Apartheid and Genocide. Both Crimes against Humanity.

For 28 months, this government has turned a Blind Eye, we assume under Collins guidance, and Ignore the crimes against Humanity that plays out on news feeds around the world.

This government hides the truth as Official Information Act requests do not cover Legal Advice Collins has given to the Government.

Law Commission
We now find that Collins has been appointed as head of the Law Commission. A role that advises the government on making laws within Aotearoa.

There has been serious criticism of Collins being given that role:

  • Journalist Nicky Hager says retiring National MP Judith Collins is “clearly and demonstrably not” fit to be Law Commission president.

  • Labour leader Chris Hipkins has also questioned the move - saying it ran the risk of “politicising” the role.

The concern that all Human Rights activists must have, given Collins actions as Attorney General, will she suggest laws to criminalise protest. To push laws that will shut down the voice for Palestinian Human Rights here in Aotearoa and criminalise fair criticism of Israeli Apartheid and Genocide. As well as criticism of the Racist Supremacist, Political Ideology of zionism that is centered on Land Theft, Ethnic Cleansing and Land expansion via war.

We hold our breath. . .

Waitangi Day

One of the most important days on Aotearoa’s calendar is Waitangi day which is February 6 every year.

Every year, dedicated Palestinian Human Rights supporters go to Waitangi in support of this day.

If you would like to support this effort, the team will be on the Paihia side of the bridge from early morning. Just look for the flags.

Petition to the Government

PSNA is launching a petition to Parliament calling on Severing Relations with the State of Israel.

At present, the wording of the petition is held up with getting the Parliamentary petition system to approve it.

The Petition:

Severing Relations with the State of Israel

Our Request
That the House of Representatives requests the NZ government to sever all relations with the State of Israel until Israel implements: 1) UNGA resolution 194 (III) – the right of return 2)The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Article 25 2 – right to vote, & 3)The House is satisfied Israel has implemented both 1&2

The Reason
1) In 1948, the United Nations General Assembly directed Israel to allow more than 750,000 Palestinians, it had just expelled through terror actions, to return to their homes in Palestine. NZ votes to reiterate the importance of this resolution in the UN every year. 2) Israel allows some Palestinians, inside all the land Israel controls, to vote in Israeli elections. But Israel refuses to allow most other Palestinians that right to vote – just like discrimination was in Apartheid South Africa

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

There is a QR code that takes people to the PSNA page which explains the petition.

We will let you know when the petition is approved and then It will be time to spread the word.

UpScrolled

As Meta, TikTok, Instagram and X continue to censor Palestinian Human Rights activists, there is a new game in town that has gained a million followers in a short period of time.

UpScrolled is operated by Recursive Methods Pty Ltd (Australia). “UpScrolled” is a business name owned by Recursive Methods Pty Ltd.

The company is privately funded by its Palestinian founder, Issam Hijazi, together with a small group of individual investors who share its mission and values. There is no corporate, government, or VC ownership today.

If you want to join the new media, you can find the link to download the app here.

Many Palestinian Human Rights activists here in Aotearoa joining up.

Give it a try.

Banner making in Tamaki Makaurau

The team in Tamaki Makaurau often runs banner making workshops.

The Trick:

  • Create your banner in PowerPoint or any other drawing package you like (remembering that the banner will be waaaay wider than it is high.

  • Hang your banner materials on a wall

  • Project your image onto the Material using a Data Projector

  • Use a felt tip marker to put the outline onto the material Be careful that the ink does not go through the material and end up on the wall if you don’t want it there. . .)

  • Then fill in between the lines with colour (Either while the material is on the wall or if you put it on the floor)

  • If marking up Black material, use Tailors chalk.

  • Because the banners can be large and catch a lot of wind like a sail, you will need to cut triangular windage holes in the banner. Make sure the pivot piece of the triangle is at the top of the triangular hole.

One result. . .

Displaying on motorway overbridges

Make sure that you securely tie the banners to the inside of the railings and ensure they can't fall onto the motorway. A banner falling and landing on a cars windscreen could cause a major accident. Take all possible precautions to ensure safety.

If you have been threatened or attacked by zionist thugs

There are growing numbers of reports coming in of Pro Israel supporters or Israeli Soldiers here in Aotearoa and Working Holiday visas (200 per year) Intimidating/threatening or assaulting Palestinian Human Rights supporters.

PSNA’s Kaupapa is Not Violence. We expect the Police to do their job in keeping the community safe from Pro Israeli Political Violence.

Police have asked people who have been attacked or Threatened/Intimidated to report those incidents to police.

You can do that via calling 105 or putting in a report here.

While many of us don’t trust Police because of their lack of action in combatting threats and attacks on Palestinian Human Rights supporters, they have to take notice when the event is officially reported to them.

We need to ensure that the levels of Pro Israel Thuggery is officially captured.

This Our country.

The Police are meant to keep All of us Safe.

Please take action on this reporting to police and then email the incident report to Admin@PSNA.nz so we can keep track of the level of Threats, Intimidation and Violence

Who keeps us safe? We Keep us safe.

Keep spreading the message about the Genocide Hotline!

Remember possible action for local groups

For groups affiliated to PSNA we suggest the following actions could be taken at any time in support of this campaign

  • Asking your local backpacker accommodation to display the poster and draw it to the attention of any Israeli soldiers here on “rest and recreation” from the genocide.

  • Pasting the hotline poster (use the version in this newsletter which includes a contact email) around the vicinity of backpacker venues in your local area. This is already happening in some areas.

  • Hand out flyers to people in the vicinity of your local backpackers

  • Contact us on the hotline if you come across Israeli soldiers

Are you able to donate a cup of coffee a month to the campaign?

We will need some serious money to make our campaign as effective as possible. For example, we will need somewhere in the vicinity of $25,000 to bring speakers to New Zealand over the next year and organise large public meetings to help spread the message.

You can help. Are you able to donate a cup of coffee a month to the campaign? In other words, can you afford to make an automatic payment of $5 per month to support the Palestinian struggle? (If you can afford more that would be great!)

Our account details are:

  • Account name: Palestine Solidarity Network

  • Account number: 38-9015-0849542-00

We are happy to provide a receipt upon request (however, we are not a registered charity so this is not tax-deductible)
